Mourning Dove Grief Care
Mourning Dove Grief Care, operated by Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions, is Wyoming’s first facility dedicated solely to grief support. Located in Casper, the 6,196-square-foot center transforms a former medical outpatient clinic into a warm, homelike environment where individuals, families, and children can find comfort and care during life’s most difficult moments.
MOA ARCHITECTURE collaborated closely with counselors, leadership, and staff to create a space that replaces the clinical, boxed-off feel of exam rooms with inviting open areas. Highlights include a fireplace-centered great room, flexible group and art therapy rooms, child-friendly play areas, and quiet nooks for reflection.

The vision for Mourning Dove was driven by the need for a compassionate, supportive, and flexible environment for grief care. Counselors and leadership shared that clients benefit from spaces that feel safe, welcoming, and restorative.
Design decisions—from the warm, home-like finishes to the soft, uplifting color palette of Refuge, Meditative, and Acacia Haze—reflect the center’s mission: to provide a place of refuge, contemplation, and resilience. Large windows bring natural light into every corner, supporting wellness and reducing reliance on artificial lighting. Thoughtful circulation and semi-private seating areas allow both staff and clients to pause, reflect, and recharge in comfort.
Mourning Dove Grief Care consolidates CWHT’s counseling services under one roof, addressing a growing need in Casper and serving as a unique resource for the entire state of Wyoming. Beyond providing grief support, the center communicates care and welcome to the community through exterior improvements such as a new pergola, updated monument sign, and enhanced streetscape.
By creating an environment that prioritizes healing, reflection, and connection, the architecture itself becomes part of the care process—helping individuals and families navigate grief in a space designed for compassion, comfort, and hope.
