Vista PEAK Preparatory

Aurora, Colorado
A School Built Around Learning Communities

Vista PEAK Preparatory, part of Aurora Public Schools, serves 2,400 students across six distinct learning communities, each designed for approximately 400 students. The high school facility was completed in two phases: the first phase encompassed three of the five planned learning pods, a cafeteria, art room, media center, and public areas including the gymnasium, auditorium, and administrative offices. The second phase expanded the campus with an additional classroom wing and state-of-the-art science facilities. Outdoor amenities include soccer and playing fields, as well as a teaching green roof adjacent to the science classrooms, supporting hands-on learning and environmental education.

A Campus in Harmony with the Colorado Plains

The design of Vista PEAK Preparatory emphasizes flexibility, community engagement, and a connection to the surrounding landscape. Inspired by Prairie-style architecture, the building’s forms, materials, and color palette reflect the plains of eastern Colorado, creating a visual harmony between the campus and its environment. Learning pods were conceived to foster small community environments within a larger high school, supporting collaboration, student-centered learning, and interdisciplinary instruction. Public spaces are thoughtfully separated from classroom areas, allowing the school to host community events without disrupting student learning.

Learning commons featuring lounge seating, a patterned carpeted floor, large glass partition walls with horizontal wood slats, high ceilings with exposed structure, and tall windows bringing in natural light.
Auditorium showing tiered seating, a large performance stage with a curtain, wood wall paneling, vertical acoustic panels, and curved ceiling baffles with integrated lighting.
Preparing Students for a Future Without Limits

Vista PEAK Preparatory provides a dynamic, future-ready learning environment for thousands of students while serving as a hub for the surrounding community. The campus design promotes both academic and social development, with specialized spaces for arts, science, and athletics integrated into the overall educational vision. Its flexible learning pods, secure public areas, and outdoor teaching spaces create opportunities for experiential learning, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. By blending innovative educational strategies with a strong connection to place, Vista PEAK Preparatory supports student success and prepares learners to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
