Laura Irwin Elementary School & Riverside Middle/High School

Basin, Wyoming
A Campus That Brings Basin Together

Located in the northern Wyoming town of Basin, the Laura Irwin Elementary School and Riverside Middle/High School provide a modern, cohesive educational campus for Big Horn School District #4. The one-story facilities are designed to meet the needs of students from early childhood through high school, integrating flexible learning environments, shared commons, and specialized program spaces. The campus is organized around a central courtyard that connects the schools while maintaining distinct entryways, fostering both community and identity within each school. Key shared amenities include a centralized kitchen, library, performance stage, and art and music classrooms.

A Modern Take on the Classic Schoolhouse

The campus design reflects a thoughtful balance between contemporary educational strategies and the traditions of classic school architecture. MOA ARCHITECTURE focused on creating intuitive circulation, abundant natural light, and clear connections between learning spaces to encourage collaboration and engagement. Each school has unique architectural elements—including sloping roofs, extended canopies, and tailored common areas—while maintaining a cohesive campus identity. Specialized Career and Technical Education spaces, such as welding and wood shops, an agriculture lab, and a business center, were integrated to prepare students for practical, real-world opportunities and expand the district’s educational mission.

Investing in the Future of Big Horn School District

The new Laura Irwin Elementary and Riverside Middle/High School campus provides students with safe, flexible, and inspiring spaces that support learning, creativity, and skill development. Close coordination with the Wyoming School Facilities Department, the local district, and GH Phipps as CMAR ensured the project was delivered efficiently, on budget, and to the highest standards. Beyond academics, the campus serves as a community hub, connecting students, staff, and residents through shared spaces, events, and programs that strengthen the fabric of Basin and Big Horn School District #4.
