KIPP Northeast Elementary & Middle Schools

Denver, Colorado
Knowledge is Power Program Inspires a Campus of Opportunity

KIPP Northeast Elementary & Middle Schools create a unified K–8 campus for Denver Public Schools in the rapidly expanding Gateway neighborhood. Designed to support 950 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, the two-story facility brings together dedicated learning environments for both programs, including music and art rooms, science labs, a full gymnasium, and a versatile cafetorium. The campus provides KIPP with a purpose-built home that aligns with its mission to prepare students from historically underserved communities for long-term academic success.

Two‑story commons area with large floor‑to‑ceiling windows, circular pendant lights, yellow and gray accent walls, patterned tile flooring, and small seating tables near the glass wall.
Cafetorium with folding cafeteria tables, yellow accent wall around the serving line, polished flooring, circular ceiling light panels, and multiple doors along the back wall.
Designing Joy and Belonging for Every Student

The design draws from KIPP’s culture of joy, community, and high expectations, resulting in a building that is vibrant, welcoming, and easy to navigate for students of all ages. Bright metal panels emphasize key shared spaces such as the library, while contrasting brick tones mark entry points and create a visually intuitive campus. Inside, a color-based wayfinding system extends the exterior palette to help students and families seamlessly navigate the two distinct yet connected programs. Every design choice supports KIPP’s belief that thoughtful environments can inspire confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.

Early‑learning classroom with activity tables and chairs, open shelving units, a rug area near the whiteboard, colorful bulletin boards, and large windows providing natural light.
Learning space with yellow walls, large two‑story windows, circular acoustic light panels on the ceiling, bookshelves along the perimeter, and tables and seating areas on patterned carpet flooring.
Where Students Thrive in Arts, STEM, and Community

The completed campus strengthens educational opportunities in northeast Denver by providing a stable, high-quality learning environment for a growing student population. Purposeful shared spaces expand programming and enrich the student experience, allowing KIPP to offer robust arts, STEM, and extracurricular activities. By creating a cohesive home for two schools under one roof, the project supports smoother student transitions, fosters community connection, and reinforces KIPP’s long-term commitment to empowering students on their path to college and beyond.
