PharmaLogic + CU Research Imaging Center
Located within Bioscience 3 on the Fitzsimons Innovation Campus, this project supports cutting-edge collaborative medical research and treatment led by the University of Colorado School of Medicine Research Imaging Center in partnership with PharmaLogic, a private nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceutical company. The suite integrates specialized research and clinical imaging capabilities, including a PET/CT scanner, a 3-Tesla MRI, and provision for a future 7-Tesla MRI. A dedicated cyclotron produces radioactive tracers for PET/MR scans via an under-slab connection to the imaging suite, enabling seamless integration of research and patient imaging.

The project was driven by the need to advance medical imaging and radiopharmaceutical research in a collaborative environment. By co-locating PharmaLogic’s cyclotron with the CU Research Imaging Center, researchers and clinicians gain direct access to short half-life tracers, accelerating studies in nuclear medicine. MOA’s design balances the highly technical requirements of cyclotron installation and MRI safety with the operational and functional needs of researchers and clinicians. Every element—from shielding and concrete-lined chambers to careful planning of MR safety zones—was carefully coordinated to ensure precision, safety, and efficiency.
This facility strengthens the University of Colorado’s leadership in nuclear medicine research and patient care. The integration of the cyclotron with advanced imaging suites allows for rapid, efficient translation of research into clinical applications. With flexible imaging infrastructure and thoughtfully designed research spaces, the project supports ongoing innovation in PET/MR scanning, enhances collaboration between academic and private sectors, and provides a platform for future advancements in nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceutical development.
