Deer Trail PK-12 School
Replacing an aging facility—parts of which were over 100 years old—Deer Trail’s new PK-12 school serves as a vital community hub for this small town, located 60 miles southeast of Denver. Funded through the Colorado BEST Grant program, the school provides modern, flexible spaces for academics, vocational technology, athletics, performing arts, and administration, all within a single, cohesive campus designed to support students from early childhood through high school.

The design of Deer Trail PK-12 School was inspired by the dual goals of community integration and sustainable, high-performance building standards. Designed to achieve CHPS certification, the school incorporates low-maintenance, durable materials such as concrete block, brick, and metal paneling to reflect the character of the town while ensuring long-term durability. The layout thoughtfully separates primary and secondary grade levels, providing distinct learning environments while fostering opportunities for collaboration in shared spaces such as the commons and multi-purpose areas. Open classroom wings and flexible circulation spaces encourage interaction, creativity, and student engagement.
The new Deer Trail PK-12 School provides a safe, modern, and inspiring learning environment that supports the academic, social, and extracurricular needs of the community. Vocational labs and technology classrooms equip students with skills for future careers, while the music suite and performance spaces foster creativity and artistic growth. The commons, athletic facilities, and multipurpose areas serve as central gathering points for both students and the broader community. By combining thoughtful design, sustainable practices, and flexible learning spaces, the school strengthens community identity and provides a lasting asset for generations of Deer Trail students.
