The design draws inspiration from the cultural and spiritual traditions of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. The exterior courtyard circle incorporates hardscape and landscape elements that conceptually reflect the medicine wheel, a symbol of creation and the cycles of life. The building’s circulation design also emphasizes a connection between sky and earth, using raised lanterns along the main corridor to bring natural daylight deep into the interior. Every aspect of the project honors the tribe’s heritage while supporting the needs of residents, caregivers, and visitors.
The Elderly Village provides a safe, functional, and culturally resonant environment for the community’s elders. Core operational areas are efficiently organized to support daily activities, healthcare, and administrative needs, while communal and outdoor spaces foster social engagement and connection to tradition. Thoughtful daylighting, cultural symbolism, and attention to human-scale design create a nurturing environment that enhances the well-being of residents and strengthens community ties. The facility sets a standard for culturally responsive elder care, blending modern healthcare with meaningful cultural expression.
