Amy Davis Hospice Support Center

Denver, Colorado
A Unified Vision for Hospice Care

The Amy Davis Hospice Support Center brings together the administrative staff and bereavement services of The Denver Hospice onto a unified campus in Denver’s Lowry neighborhood. Located adjacent to the existing inpatient care center—also designed by MOA ARCHITECTURE in 2008—the new facility creates a cohesive, mission-driven environment that supports hospice and palliative care across Colorado’s Front Range. Designed to house over 100 administrative staff and counseling professionals, the building serves as a critical hub for both operational support and community-facing services.

Creating a Place for Healing and Reflection

The design draws from the compassionate mission of The Denver Hospice and the emotional experiences of those who work and visit there. Materiality, natural light, and scale were carefully considered to ensure the new building harmonizes with the adjacent care center, creating a comforting and coherent campus aesthetic. Thoughtful programming addresses the dual purpose of the facility: to support a workforce engaged in emotionally demanding work, and to provide a welcoming space for individuals and families receiving counseling and bereavement services. The layout balances privacy and openness, with tranquil spaces like a two-story lobby, a healing garden, and a specially designed family therapy room called “Footprints” that supports grieving children.

Where Staff Wellness Meets Compassionate Service

The Amy Davis Hospice Support Center is a place of support, healing, and renewal. The design promotes staff wellness through features like an expansive second-floor breakroom with an outdoor patio, collaborative meeting spaces, and flexible work areas including “touch-down” stations for the field-based palliative care teams. The second floor also houses Care Synergy’s headquarters, complete with a fully equipped training and simulation space designed to resemble a typical one-bedroom apartment—enhancing real-world care training for hundreds of hospice workers. On the community side, the center provides dignified, comforting spaces for counseling, reflection, and remembrance. A ballroom with a catering kitchen hosts events and staff gatherings, further anchoring the building as both a functional workplace and a space that honors human connection in times of need.
