Colorado Bureau of Investigation Toxicology Lab

Arvada, Colorado
Expanding Capacity for Critical Forensic Work

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) provides critical forensic services across the state. To meet growing demand for toxicology testing, MOA ARCHITECTURE partnered with CBI and the State of Colorado to expand and modernize their lab operations. A former loading dock was transformed into a 2,795-square-foot purpose-built toxicology lab—nearly three times the size of the previous space—housing 10 full-time toxicologists.

The MOA team was consistently impressive. Christine did an amazing job project managing this while also using her superior experience to guide it. Mary was impressively competent at her design and had excellent recall when asked about minute details. Our weekly meetings were always positive experiences on the MOA end. They were aware of all issues and made sure issues were resolved. Thank you for giving us such a positive experience.

Engineering a Lab for Reliable Results

The project was driven by the need to improve workflow, safety, and technical precision for forensic testing. By prioritizing an efficient and secure laboratory environment, the design ensures that scientists can perform complex analyses accurately and reliably. Integrating specialized equipment and sophisticated MEP systems, the team created a space tailored to the unique demands of forensic science.

Supporting Justice Through Smarter Infrastructure

This expansion significantly enhances CBI’s operational capacity, allowing for faster, more accurate testing to support criminal investigations statewide. By converting underutilized space into a state-of-the-art lab, the project strengthens Colorado’s criminal justice system and bolsters public safety, ensuring that law enforcement and communities have the reliable forensic resources they need.
