Designing a Home for High-Impact Research

MOA ARCHITECTURE transformed multiple office tenant spaces in Boulder’s Pearl East Business Park into the new headquarters for Cogent Biosciences, a biotechnology company focused on genetically driven diseases. The renovation consolidates office, conference, and collaborative spaces centrally, while specialized laboratory spaces—including chemistry, enzymology, cellular biology, pharmacology, robotics, hydrogenation, nuclear magnetic resonance labs, and a vivarium—occupy the wings of the floor plate. The project also included major infrastructure upgrades, such as a full replacement of the HVAC system, a back-up generator, expanded water and electrical services, and an enlarged service yard.

The layout prioritizes operational efficiency, safety, and flexibility, allowing research teams to collaborate effectively while maintaining strict laboratory requirements. The central placement of office and collaborative areas encourages interaction across scientific teams, supporting a culture of innovation.
