Bear Creek High School

Lakewood, Colorado
A New Era of Learning for Jeffco Students

Bear Creek High School, part of Jeffco Public Schools, is a new high school complex built on the site of the previous campus. The project was completed in multiple phases while the existing high school remained fully occupied. The campus provides a modern academic environment that balances dynamic, flexible learning spaces with a clear organizational spine, ensuring smooth circulation and maximizing natural light throughout the facility. MOA also renovated the existing cafeteria to create music classrooms and upgraded the gym and locker rooms to support an auxiliary gym and expanded athletics programs.

Drawing Inspiration from the University Model

The design of Bear Creek High School draws inspiration from university campuses, creating a sense of scale, community, and connectivity. A central pedestrian spine is framed by curved building walls, connecting students to classrooms, learning spaces, and a tree-lined promenade leading to the athletic fields plaza. The campus integrates vistas, green spaces, and formal and informal gathering areas, emphasizing the connection between indoor learning environments and the outdoors. Every design decision supports exploration, collaboration, and a diversity of academic and extracurricular experiences.

From Classroom to Field, Excellence in Every Space

Bear Creek High School provides students and staff with a versatile, inspiring, and engaging campus that fosters both academic and athletic excellence. The central circulation spine and multiple learning areas encourage collaboration while the campus layout promotes visual and physical connectivity to the outdoors. Extensive athletic facilities—including football, track, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, and a synthetic turf multi-use field—offer ample opportunities for physical education and competition. The phased construction approach allowed the school to remain fully operational, ensuring continuity for students while delivering a state-of-the-art learning environment that will serve the community for decades.
