Tyler Lanphear

Junior Product Designer
I'm Ty. I work across projects at MOA in a bit of a unique capacity — I am spearheading the creation of a design innovation studio within the firm. That means I'm always looking for the moments inside a project where we can do something no one else would think to do. I help figure out things that don't have a playbook yet. I'm curious to a fault, so I end up down a lot of rabbit holes on materials, fabrication methods, new software — and then I bring it back to the team. The way I see it, my job is to make sure we're always showing up with something the client didn't expect but immediately can't imagine the project without.

My Why

I came to MOA for what felt like a pretty unconventional opportunity — the firm wanted to explore whether there was a product development side to what they do, and they brought me in to figure that out. From there, there were growing pains but also really exciting moments and MOA has empowered me to lean into my innate skills and technical abilities. Alongside this empowerment, I have been able to take ownership of my work and push our designs to the next level. The thing that makes MOA special to me is that feeling that we would get in elementary school: coming into work excited to see my coworkers after the weekend and tell them about everything that had happened. That's a rare feeling to find in a workplace.

Favorite MOA Project

Great design is intentional; it is driven by the user and measured by its impact. Fletcher Miller embodies that ethos. The project considers every variable, from experience to execution, allowing us to push architecture and product innovation  forward in service of the people who use it.
