In just 10 years, I grew from Architectural Intern to Associate Principal by embracing a path that challenged the traditional expectations of the industry. At many firms, success can feel driven by competition and ego. Early in my career at MOA, I realized our culture valued something very different.
Rather than focusing on competition, I focused on being authentic, learning from my mentors, and supporting the people around me. I made it a priority to be a strong teammate—leading with honesty, kindness, collaboration, and a genuine respect for others’ ideas and perspectives.
What sets MOA apart is its culture. It has never felt hierarchical to me. Even as a young intern, I felt my voice mattered, and now as an Associate Principal, my greatest priority is supporting the foundation of our firm: our people. I am passionate about creating an environment where individuals feel valued, supported, and fulfilled so they can bring their best selves to their clients and projects.
I believe great firms are built by investing in their people first. MOA has always invested in me, and I am committed to continuing that culture by showing up for our team, our clients, and our work every day.
Pathways Hospice Center is my favorite project at MOA. It is rooted in a powerful mission and guided by an incredible staff whose insight shaped every aspect of the design. The team carefully studied the needs of various user groups, ensuring that both the functionality of the spaces and the overall aesthetic would be meaningful and supportive for those who experience the building every day.
Designed in the midst of the COVID pandemic, the project required adaptability and resilience. The team pivoted quickly to incorporate an isolation wing, adjust material selections, and navigate ongoing supply shortages. Despite these challenges, the project was successfully delivered and stands as a testament to collaboration, flexibility, and mission-driven design.
