As someone new to the architectural field, finding a firm with a strong, tight-knit culture was really important to me. I moved from North Dakota to Colorado without knowing anyone, so that sense of connection was a big priority. After almost a year at MOA, I’ve seen that culture really come through. People support each other both personally and professionally, whether that’s checking in on each other or collaborating closely to solve project challenges. At the same time, there’s a strong focus on delivering high-quality work and meeting client goals. That combination of care and accountability is what makes MOA feel different to me.
Traverse Academy is my favorite MOA project for its thoughtful approach to a hybrid educational and mental health typology. The project addresses a gap in how spaces for students facing mental health challenges are designed, creating an environment that feels supportive, dignified, and age appropriate. The architecture is sensitive to both mental health and the needs of young individuals, integrating therapeutic considerations in a way that feels natural and seamless rather than institutional.
