Thorncreek Crossing
A suburb of Denver, the town of Thornton sought to attract shoppers from the major metropolitan area with a new outdoor shopping center. Located on a plot that was formerly a large agricultural lake, the Thorncreek Crossing retail development serves as an expansive outdoor shopping center with specialty retail stores, restaurants and large format retail shopping.

Taking advantage of the scenic backdrop, Thorncreek Crossing is framed by the Rocky Mountains and makes the 400,000 square foot space a unique shopping experience. A complimentary pallet of masonry, stone, and concrete precast wall panels with steel canopies and corrugated metal roof elements. The water features onsite are physical reminders of and a tribute to the property’s and city’s evolution. The result is an outdoor shopping center that blends the surrounding natural beauty with a one-of-a-kind experience for shoppers.
RTA provided full planning and architectural services for this development. The key to this project’s success was RTA’s collaboration with the City of Thornton’s Planning Department and development control of the outlying multi-use and restaurant sites. The former lake was carefully filled in with fill dirt from a neighboring site under development and the wetlands were preserved and expanded.
